Maxim Robert Garno

     Maxim Robert Garno, 62, of Mt. Pleasant, MI passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at McLaren-Bay Med in Bay City, MI.  Maxim was born on Sunday, March 8, 1953 in Adrian, MI the son of Donald Cletus and Leona Clara (Hasenkamp) Garno.  He was a resident of Mt. Pleasant for the past year.

     Maxim worked as an oiler on the USS Badger for many years and spent a lot of his life on the waters of the Great Lakes as a Merchant Mariner.  He loved the Great Lakes.  He traveled extensively in foreign countries and from 1990 to 1991 he was in Iraq, Saudi Arabia and the Persian Gulf.  He was a Christian man who enjoyed art, music, playing his drums and his work as a craftsman.  He enjoyed role playing and loved nature and animals.

     Maxim is survived by his children, Matthew and Sarah Garno of Traverse City, MI, Margaret and Mike Caldwell of Ohio and Rosalyn Garno of Traverse City, MI.  Six grandchildren, Chandler and Sawyer Garno, Leila and Danny Caldwell and Jesslyn and Adriane Thorpe.  Two brothers, Philip and Diane Garno of Bellaire, MI and Austin and Pat Garno of Elk Rapids, MI, four sisters, Grace and Jeff Toutant of Carmel, IN, Clare and James Simcox of Shepherd, MI, Edwina and Rich Clark of Mt. Pleasant and Rachel and Scott Alpers of Traverse City, MI.  Maxim was preceded in death by both parents and a sister Louise Dilloway.

     Memorial services are planned for a future date.  Memorial contributions have been suggested to the Isabella County Commission on Aging or to the Fr. Fred Foundation in Traverse City.  Envelopes are available at Rowley Funeral Home.
